Possible bios flash?

I'm thinking of getting one of these http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/sh … spx?i=3492 to put in my pc, my board is this http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Moth … uctID=2874 and will take the cpu but my problem is my bios is FA and the cpu needs it to be FB.

2 questions, will it work ok without flashing the bios and if not what are the risks of doing so?

cheers.

Re: Possible bios flash?

Where have you seen the CPU needs a certain BIOS?

Flashing the BIOS is what I would consider to be advanced. Purely because if you get it wrong, it will render your motherboard useless.

Re: Possible bios flash?

My current cpu is a 2nd generation E8400 (E0 stepping) which is only supported from bios version 1.6 on my MSI motherboard.  The older E8400 is currently listed as being supported form bios verion 1.4.  My motherboard has bios version 1.2 installed and I have had vitually no problems (the only one being that if the mouse gets moved when putting the pc into sleep mode it won't go to sleep properly).

Buy the CPU anyway. The chances of it simply not working because of a BIOS version are pretty slim. It's just to cover the manufacturers backs should you need any help with it.

I'd be willing to bet you will have zero problems. If you do, then start to think about flashing the BIOS.

Judging by this:
http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/ga-ma77 … lem-30009/

It looks like it will work fine but just show up as an "unknown" CPU.

Re: Possible bios flash?

Hmm, don't [NOTE I NEEDED HELP TO USE THE APOSTROPHE CORRECTLY] really like the sound of a 2.4ghz cpu and 400mhz ran, plus al the messing around just to get it working, think i'll give it a miss.
